Perform high-complexity molecular laboratory testing, including whole genome sequencing, RT-PCR, MLST, antibody/antigen assays, and pathogen diagnostics
Certification as Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) (ASCP-BOR)
B.S. in Biological Sciences or related field with 2–5 years laboratory experience (especially molecular assays)
Knowledge of molecular assays, laboratory quality standards, and biosafety practices (including BSL-3)
Familiarity with CLIA, CAP, TJC, CDC LRN, and VA regulatory requirements
Experience with VA Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIM), including VistA/CPRS and Oracle-Cerner connectivity
Strong technical judgment, troubleshooting ability, and communication skills
English language proficiency required

Support outbreak investigations, laboratory surveillance, and national biodefense efforts (e.g., Ebola, mpox, H5N1 avian influenza)
Provide Laboratory Information Management (LIM) services connecting all 150 VA medical centers with the PHRL
Evaluate specimens for analysis and maintain integrity during processing
Conduct and document quality control, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory instruments
Generate and verify laboratory results in VistA/CPRS and related systems
Troubleshoot complex laboratory platforms, both independently and with vendor support
Train staff, design workflows, and advise providers on appropriate test methodologies
